About the Class:

Join Explorers by Nature School this Spring for our full 16-week semester! Explorers in TK-5th grade (ages 4-10) will gather in our small, intimate community as we explore, play, learn, discover and create together in the greatest classroom of all--the outdoors! We are a nomadic style Nature/Farm School hybrid and meet weekly at rotating East County SD Parks and Farms. Our rotation schedule offers explorers the opportunity to learn and play at truly special East County parks and farms/ranches, as we switch weekly our Nature School and Farm School offerings (i.e. week 1-farm location, week 2-park location, week 3-farm location and so on). Upon sign-up, you will be emailed with our exact meeting locations for the 16-week Nature/Farm School schedule. Nature school will meet each Tuesday for 4 hours. Daily learning in nature will include multiple subject areas (STEAM, literature, writing, nature study, social-emotional skill development, homesteading/cooking skills and more) that are blended together to create a community of learners who are engaged, inquisitive, and drivers of their own learning paths. Come prepared for hands-on, active, exciting and sometimes even messy learning in nature with friends! Our daily rhythm of class typically includes opening circle/snack, a child-led nature hike or animal interactions, lunch/open exploration, and station-based learning in which we dive into our play-based lesson for the day (while organically weaving various subject areas into our learning), ending with some more open exploration time which allows explorers to dig deeply into special interest projects before gathering back together for closing circle time to reflect on our time spent in nature together. Every part of your child's day with Explorers by Nature is thoughtfully designed to meet their varied needs: social-emotional, physical, and educational. Children are given autonomy of their time with Explorers by Nature, through free time, open station choices, and planned activities that are intended to be child-led. Granting our children this independence builds self-confidence and allows explorers to discover new passions and interests.
